Spiritual awakening through Yoga

Everything we have done in our life so far has been in pursuit of a single thing: joy . If we had been born as any other creature on this planet, it would have been very simple. Our needs would have just been physical. A full stomach would have been equivalent to a great day. But when we came into this world as human beings, things changed. As soon as the problem of hunger gets resolved, an infinite other problems arise. For a human being, life doesn't seem to end with survival, life begins with survival. If we see today's generation, our survival process is better organised than it was before. We can buy or get anything we need even without stepping out of our house, this was never possible before. We are the most comfortable generation to have ever lived on this planet. But are we the most joyful? The most loving? Or the most peaceful? No. We are not. We tried our best to fix the outside world. But still, we are not happier than our ancestors. This is because we focused...

Connect with yourself

A day has 24 hours and by subtracting the hour we spend on sleep, we spend around 15 hours awake. How much of it do we spend with ourselves? And what is our own importance for ourselves? Does the answer of these two match like are they congruent? Being congruent means that if you are important to yourself then you spend around an hour of a day with yourself. Then these two statements are congruent. First is to realize the importance of oneself   Why are we even important for ourselves? Well why shouldn’t we be important for ourselves? What’s their not to love and cherish? We should be the most important person in our own life. We should be our own priority.  S econd is to spend time with oneself .  In our busy lives we often underestimate our own importance and the importance o...

Be your own master (Part II)

Often our actions do not match our beliefs and our words. In psychology an attitude (belief about something) has three components- affect (emotions attached to the belief), behaviour (action) and cognition (the belief itself). Surprisingly our behaviour is not merely governed by our beliefs, it’s governed by the belief about that behaviour. So believing in something and acting on that thing becomes two separate entities. Which is why sometimes our words do not match our actions. Now to unite them, we need to form two separate but same beliefs. Like, don’t just tell yourself that you believe in it, say that you believe in doing it as well- that’s how you are unconsciously preparing your mind for that action.                    Now what about the times when you don’t know why you did something which diverges from your beliefs. What’s done is done and cannot be undone but the damage can be repaired. A routine...
